Maestro golden modem for DSL and IP service testing

In addition to the test of the physical layer with measurements in both narrow band and wide band, Maestro includes a “golden modem” feature. This feature includes emulation of CPE and CO xDSL modems. This can be used in conjunction with an ITAM (Integrated Test Access Matrix) or an ETAM (External Test Access Matrix).

Maestro end to end service testing

The CPE side emulation includes: ADSL/ASDL2+/VDSL2 annex A and B, and optional line simulation which is very useful for DSLAM port checking.

DSL tests

  • Check the DSL layer connectivity between the golden modem and DSLAM
  • Retrieve the performance parameters from the golden modem, i.e.:
    • Data rate
    • Noise margin
    • Error counter
  • Test all DSLAM ports with matrix
  • It is also possible to simulate a l copper line with a length of approx. 3 km
    • Verify if the DSLAM port can drive a line of 3 km length

Internet tests
Example of test scenario:

  • Check the availability of internet services
  • PPPoE service check
  • PPPoE dial-in performance
  • DHCP service check
  • DNS resolution
  • Availability of specific internet/web server (ping/icmp)
  • Response times from specific internet server (http)
  • File transfer (ftp) performance

VoIP tests
Example of test scenario:

  • PPPoE dial-in
  • SIP server availability
  • SIP server registration
  • SIP call setup
  • RTP packet transmission
  • SIP call service check
